How to Get to Smith Island

  Plan to leave your car behind at the ferry site.

  If you come from Crisfield, you can leave your car at J.P. Tawes Brothers Hardware. About $3 per night. (See picture at right)
   George Tawes at the hardware store can help you. Tawes Hardware is just across the street from the city docks at the literal end of Route 413. (See picture at right below)

  Or Ewell Tide B&B guests can leave it at Somers Cove Marina (on the east side of Rt 413) within walking distance of the city docks.

  Ferries from Crisfield typically run twice a day, 12:30PM and 5:00PM. Groups can arrange in advance a private run over to the island with Captain Terry Laird, Sr. & Son. Don't let ferry schedules keep you from enjoying an overnight at Smith Island. Since some people can't get to Crisfield by 5 o'clock Captain Laird is happy to meet guests at Crisfield at later times.   Once you're on Smith Island The Ewell Tide Inn is very easy to find. Just up the street from the docks and to the right. You can ask anyone to point you in the right direction. We'll give you full details when you call or email.
   If you visit us in your own boat, just ask and we'll be happy to arrange dock space for you.

  Passenger ferries depart year-round from Crisfield, Maryland. During the summer season ferry service leaves from Point Lookout, Maryland and Reedville, Virginia.
